Description: A common montane species occuring throughout Peninsular Malaysia. Its name refers to the often reddish (sanguine) coloration of the pitchers, though green and spotted varieties also occur. The ovoid/tubular pitchers can be quite large and have been recorded reaching lengths of over one foot. This species is often found growing alongside N. macfarlanei and N. ramispina, with which it forms frequent hybrids.

Cultivation recommendations: A very easy growing highland species, preferring cool temperatures but tolerating warm conditions well (N. sanguinea has been grown with success in the heated greenhouse).
